There is just a little more to set up a remote security DVR or Internet DVR cards, without some computer knowledge this can cause some faustration, this is the reason why after the installation of the software, the system is not enable to work on the Internet, while you can access it on the Intranet or within the local home Network. Some DVRs are Internet ready meaning that they can be accessed on the Internet but there is some things that you need to know. You may have to set up a home server, and even setting one up can create some problem for you from your Internet provider. The ISP (Internet Service Provider ) BLOCKS majority of the Ports which in turn disable your system to be reached from the outside Web. Your Service can also be interrupted, the ISP is “who” is providing your access through the Internet and for monthly fee of $10-$24 depend on who you are using, and when you try to use your computer as a web-server they can even increased your monthly fees. Therefore on all my web blogs on REMOTE VIEWING I have stressed the fact that you will need to contact your ISP to see if you can apply for a static IP address which will cost you more, or apply for a domain name. In any event you will need to explain to them what you are trying to do and which port number can be use, before port 80 was common for remote viewing, but now it is also been used by you ISP and that can create conflict with your remote camera.
If you are setting up your remote DVR have a computer tech, for example the GEEK Squad can help you set up your system for $150.00 or that is the rate as I know off from other Techs. Or you can do it yourself with some patient and some knowledge. In any case I have used Motorola Home-sight, the setup is easy, and you will need to install the software and setup the driver to view your camera. Now to see your camera on the Internet will cost you $9.00 every month with the advantage of storing your images on a remote web site. On the other hand you can Install the Visec software on your computer and either have the Visec tech set your remote Viewing for $50.00. All of the Information will be on your CD. There will be no Monthly Bill and a FREE LIFE TIME OF UPDATES…………….. ! Its up to you. If you want to set an FTP, hosting from godaddy can be cheaper for the year than paying monthly hosting bill.
